6. Problem: When Custom installation is chosen, the items listed cannot be selected or unselected.

7. Problem: Mustek is not among the scanners listed when installing TextBridge Classic.

1. Problem: The brightness cannot be adjusted in the TWAIN dialog box when used in line art mode.

Cause: Early versions of the driver lacked this adjustment.

Solution: Download the latest driver to correct the brightness adjustment.

Click here to download the latest driver.

2. Problem: When attempting to operate the scanner, the error message "Scanner Not Ready" appears.

Cause: This error message occurs if the driver is unable to communicate with the scanner, or if the scanner is not powered on.

Solution: It is very important that you make sure that the connections are right, that the scanner is getting power, and that the parallel port is set to the proper mode for the scanner.

  1. Disconnect any printers or other parallel port devices from the scanner and connect the scanner directly to the parallel port by itself. This will determine if the error is coming from the scanner, or from a conflict with another device.
  2. Make sure the power adapter is plugged in and the outlet is working. The AC adapter will be warm if it is plugged into a good outlet.
  3. Check the cable connections in the back of the scanner and the computer to make certain they are tight. Verify that you are using the IEEE 1284 cable that came with the scanner and that it is connected from the port labeled "Computer" on the rear of the scanner to your computer's parallel port.
  4. Set the parallel port mode to EPP in the computer's BIOS. This solves many problems with parallel port scanners. For more information on the EPP mode, click here.
  5. It is possible to have a "Scanner Not Ready" message caused by a software conflict. Try operating the scanner in Safe Mode in a program like iPhoto Plus 1.2. If the scanner operates in Safe Mode, you are most likely experiencing a conflict with a software program loading in Windows. For information on booting into Safe Mode (Windows 95/98 only) click here.
  6. If the computer does not have an EPP mode (some old 486s don't), we suggest that you do one of the following:
  1. (Easy) Exchange the A3 EP for an A3 SP which attaches to a 32-bit PCI SCSI card that comes with the scanner, or a 600 USB scanner with a Universal Serial Bus connector.
  2. (Difficult -- Only for users familiar with IRQ/DMA Issues) Purchase an enhanced parallel port interface card such as the SIIG Parallel Pro Enhanced Parallel Port.

Note: If you choose to buy a second parallel port and experience difficulty installing it, you must contact the manufacturer of the card if you need help with installation or configuration.

3. Error messages: "[T009]Error in getting the first TWAIN data source. [T021]Unable to find the TWAIN Source manager (TWAIN_32.DLL). Please copy the TWAIN_32.DLL file from your source disk to your Windows Folder.[T039]" or "U32SCAN."

4. Problem: Error Message: "Input of color/grayscale images is not supported."

Cause: The setting in the TWAIN Dialog window is set to Color or Gray, but TextBridge can only support LineArt.

Solution: Close the TextBridge application and then restart it. On the TWAIN interface, change the Scan Mode to LineArt.

5. Error message: "Cover Sensor - Panel.exe not found."

Cause: Some driver updates do not support the Cover Sensor feature.

Solution: Use the Uninstall command to remove the scanner software from the system. Reinstall the original scanner software from the CD to regain the Cover Sensor feature.

6. Problem: When Custom installation is chosen, the items listed cannot be selected or unselected.

Cause: The installation was designed to install all of the components. The Custom feature does not allow one to change the components.

Solution: If you do not wish to install a component, simply exit from the component during installation.

7. Problem: Mustek is not among the scanners listed when installing TextBridge Classic.

Cause: The list of scanner names you are seeing is a list of ISIS drivers. ISIS is a type of scanner driver used mainly for OCR programs. Your Mustek scanner does not use the ISIS driver type, but instead uses the TWAIN driver interface for image and OCR scanning, and therefore does not appear on the list.

Solution: Follow these steps to move out of the ISIS selection screen and back to the TWAIN selection screen:

  1. Click on the "Cancel" button.
  2. A gray dialog box will appear listing several choices. Click on "Setup."
  3. You will see a familiar dialog box and be prompted to "Choose the Type of Scanner Driver You Wish To Install."
  4. Choose TWAIN from the list of driver types.
  5. A box will display showing your TWAIN sources. Choose Mustek 1200 III EP from the list and click on "Select."
  6. TextBridge will now prompt you to test the scanner interface. This is unnecessary. Click on "Exit" to finish the installation.
  7. When the "Electronic Registration" window appears, you can choose to fill in the information, or click "Cancel" to finish installation.
