  1. What kind of memory card does my Mustek Gsmart S50 camera use?  top

  2. Gsmart S50 can only support SD memory card up to 1 GB.
Please note: There are a few brands of SD memory cards that we recommend you stay away from. They have been known to not work properly with this camera. The brands include Scandisk, Sandisk, Lexar, and Panasonic. There may be other brands that do not work well. However, these 4 are the only ones we know of currently. Also, some SD memory cards, including the 4 brands previously mentioned, will appear to work with the camera, but when you connect the camera to your computer, you will not be able to transfer any pictures.

You should be able to find SD memory cards at any local computer stores or any stores that sell digital cameras. You can also purchase memory cards directly from Mustek at: www.MustekDirect.com

  3. My camera did not come with a memory card. Can I still use my camera to take pictures?  top

  4. Your Mustek camera has a 32MB of built-in or ‘internal’ memory. You can use the camera normally even though it says ‘no card’ on the LCD display. You can insert a SD memory card to the memory card slot to increase the amount of memory you have, which will allow you to take more pictures. To use the camera, you DO NOT NEED a memory card.

  8. My Mustek Gsmart S50 is not being detected by my computer OR I cannot transfer pictures from my camera to my computer OR I do not see the REMOVEABLE DISK drive in My Computer. What can I do?  top

  9. IF YOU ARE RUNNING WINDOWS 2000 OR XP:
    1. Make sure the camera is NOT connected to your computer.
    2. Right-click the MY COMPUTER icon.
    3. Left-click PROPERTIES.
    4. Click on the HARDWARE tab.
    5. Click on the DEVICE MANAGER button.
    6. Turn the camera on and connect it to an available USB port (DO NOT connect the camera through a USB HUB).
    7. In the DEVICE MANAGER, look for any devices that appear after you connect the camera. The device will have a yellow exclamation point or yellow question mark next to it. If you do not see any such devices, press the MODE button on the camera. Pressing this button will toggle the camera between Mass Storage and PC Camera modes.
    8. If the device is called “USB device” or “Unknown device”, double-click it.
    9. Click on REINSTALL DRIVER.
    10. Click NEXT or OK or FINISH until the drivers are updated successfully.

NOTE: During this process, the CONSOLE may open up automatically saying the camera is not connected, simply close the CONSOLE. After closing the CONSOLE, a “Found New Hardware” window may appear, simply click NEXT or OK or FINISH until the drivers are installed. Once the drivers are installed, close out of all windows/programs and restart your computer with the camera turned on and connected to the computer. When the computer is all the way up, you should be able to access the pictures in the CONSOLE.

  10. Can Mass Storage Device work for Macintosh computer?  top

  11. Unfortunately, Mass Storage Device only works for Win/ME/2000/XP.

  12. Does my camera have Zoom function?  top

  13. Gsmart S50 has 4X digital zoom. To use this function, go to menu and select Zoom to choose from the following: 1X (normal size), 2X and 4X.

Please note: To take pictures with this feature, you need to reselect the setting each time you take pictures.

    1. Switch to Playback mode
    2. Press Menu button
    3. Use the selection button to choose from the following options:
      • Delete One: Delete the current selected picture
      • Delete All: Delete all pictures been selected
      • Format: Delete all files in the internal memory/memory card

  15. How do I know if the camera is power low?  top

  16. When the camera is power low, the red LED will blink 5 times and then the camera turns off automatically.

  17. How long does it take to charge a battery?  top

  18. For first time use: It takes approximately 3 hours to fully charge the battery. For normal use: It takes 90 minutes to recharge the battery.

  19. How many pictures can I take with a fully charged battery?  top

  20. A fully charged battery allows the camera to take about 90 pictures with Flash and 440 pictures without Flash.

  21. Why do I hear a beep sound when taking pictures?  top

  22. This may be the Low Light Lock-Out feature. This feature prevents the camera from taking pictures in low light settings when the flash is not ready. To continue taking pictures after the beep sound is heard, hold the shutter button for 1 second.

  23. Why the battery indicator icon is filled with white color on the LCD screen when the battery is fully charged but it is filled with black color on the manual.  top

  24. Since the paper used to print the manual is already in white, black is the only color that can be used to indicate the battery charge status. Since the background color shows on the LCD screen is usually very colorful, white color will be a better choice to show the battery status.
