Configuring Plug-n-Scan Scanners with Iomega ZIP Drives in Windows 95

Description:

The Plug-n-Scan 600 II SP and Plug-n-Scan Page Color does not work when attached to the same printer port that an Iomega ZIP Drive was previously installed on. The problem persists even if the Zip drive is disconnected.

This problem does not effect the new Plug-n-Scan 600 III EP. The III EP can be connected on either side of the ZIP drive and both devices will still function properly.

Cause:

The Iomega ZIP Drive installs software which makes the Parallel Port into a SCSI Port. If you look in the Windows 95 Device Manager you will see that a SCSI controller was added during the installation of the ZIP Drive.

Solution:

Disable the Iomega ZIP Drive in the Windows 95 Device Manager prior to scanning.

    1. Click the Windows 95 Start Button and select Settings/Control Panel.

    2. When the Control Panel opens, double click the System Icon.

    3. Click the Device Manager Tab.

    4. Click the + sign next to SCSI Controllers.

    5. Double click the Iomega Parallel Port Zip Interface.

    6. At the bottom of the page on the General Tab, you will see one of the following:

      a. If you have Win 95 version 4.00.950 A, you will see a line that says "Original Configuration Current." Next to this line will be a check box with an X in it. Remove the X and the Iomega Parallel Port Zip Interface will be disabled.

      b. If you have Win 95 version 4.00.950 B, you will see a line that says "Disable in this hardware profile." Next to this line will be an empty check box. Place an X in the check box to disable the Iomega Parallel Port Zip Interface.

    7. Reboot the computer so the change can take effect.

    8. Reversing the steps above followed by a reboot will make your ZIP Drive functional again.
