"A Device Attached To The System Is Malfunctioning" followed by "MGXBM10.DLL file is linked to missing export PCDLIB32.DLL:PCDsetlut"

Description:

    You get an error message saying "A device attached to the system is malfunctioning" when you try to start Picture Publisher. After clicking OK, you get an error message saying "MGXBM10.DLL file is linked to missing export PCDLIB32.DLL:PCDsetlut"

Cause:

    This error message is caused by a conflict with Kai's Goo.

Solution:

  1. Use the Windows 95/98 File Finder on your Start Menu to search for any files called MGXBM10.DLL in the C:\Windows and C:\Windows\System folders. Delete the files.
  2. Also search for any files called PCDLIB32.DLL in the C:\Windows and C:\Windows\System folders. Delete the files.
  3. Re-install Picture Publisher.
  4. Search for any files called MGXBM10.DLL in the C:\Windows and C:\Windows\System folders. Change the file properties to Archive and Read Only.
  1. To change file properties, right click on the filename and choose properties from the popup menu. On the General Properties Tab, put a check mark next to Archive and next to Read Only then click OK.
  1. Search for any files called PCDLIB32.DLL in the C:\Windows and C:\Windows\System folders. Change the file properties to Archive and Read Only.
  2. Both Picture Publisher and Kai's Goo should function normally now.
