| |   | | | FineReader 4.0 Windows Tutorial | - Start the program by going to Start, Programs, ABBYY Finereader and then click on ABBYY Finreader 4.0 Sprint.
- Click on the Scan & Read button.
 - Choose the A4 USB Scanner from the select scanner dialog box. (This step only needs to be done the first time the program is used)
- The Twain dialog box will appear on your screen.
- Set the Scan Mode to ‘Line Art’. Set the Scan Size to ‘Custom’. Set the Resolution to ‘300’ and click on Preview.
- After the scanner is done previewing, make sure the crop box is going around the edge of your document and click Scan.
- After the scanner is done scanning, ABBYY Finereader will go through a recognition process and your document will appear within the program.
- Words highlighted in green are words that the program did not recognize and therefore may be spelled incorrectly.
- At this point you have a few options:

 - Choose the folder you want the file to be saved to where it says ‘Save In’. (i.e.. My Documents)
- Give the file a name where it says ‘File Name’.
- Choose the type of file you want to save it as, either a text (.txt) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) file.
- Click Save.
Export the Document to a Microsoft Word - Click on File, Send To, Microsoft Word.
- Microsoft Word will open automatically, inserting your document into the workspace.
Export the Document to Microsoft Excel - Click on File, Send To, Microsoft Excel.
- Microsoft Excel will open automatically, inserting your document into the workspace.
